It’s shocking how early self-image pressures start, and those statistics about teens are heartbreaking. I love how you tie it back to personal experience and wellness—reminds us that beauty isn’t just about looking like someone else, it’s about feeling good in your own skin. Programs like Jenny Craig and focusing on healthy habits can really make a difference. Every young girl needs to hear that she is already beautiful, exactly as she is. We should all do our part to lift them up!

Bravo on reporting such important statistics. I think to change young girl's lives we have to show them the falseness in these comparisons and the fact that happiness comes from within. I do think that to feel their best young girls need to have good health habits, and that includes not eating lots of junk, and including exercise in their daily habits.

I hear you. I wore glasses at 8, had curly hair that was hard to manage, and was never a skinny-mini like my girlfriends. I had a bad self-image and was never taught to have a good one. Mom always said I was beautiful but I never believed her. In midlife I have a better self-image. I am me and I am unique. Just as you are.

You are beautiful inside and out, and without ever meeting you IRL I know that to be the honest truth. It's conveyed in every word you write, and I look forward to the day when I can hug you in person.

Oh, and yes, grandmothers definitely looked older at 60. Today? Chic, savvy, intelligent, compassionate - that's what you are, and at 55 I hope I am, too!

I hear you. I was always upset with my own mom who never sees what a beautiful woman she is. She puts herself down and I tell her how beautiful she is and what a knockout she was. Funny: my nephew told her this year, "Grammy, you were such a hottie!"

We both have to work on our self-images. But, Helene, you are so beautiful inside and out. It comes through with every word you write/say, with your beautiful soul and that sparkling smile. Hold your head up: you are a beauty.

Using my mom's makeup I tried to look like Cheryl Tiegs. Yeah, right. All I needed was blonde hair, button nose......ha!

You are so right. We are not air brushed, we are who we are. You, my dear, are a shining example of a gem of a lady. The way you carry yourself always sent a clear message to me you are comfortable with your beautiful looks and your shining soul. It shines through in all you do.
