It’s been quite a year at the Chester House. I’m not going to go into any lengthy, boring details but we’ve weathered quite a few storms since January. Yet through it all I feel grateful that it’s brought my family closer together.
The bad news is it derailed any exercise routine I had and gave me an "excuse" to do some emotional eating. That is not a healthy combination.
I never step on the scale. Ever. Except under complete duress at the doctor’s office when the nurses force me to step on, kicking and screaming all the way. Then they roll their eyes after hearing (for what is probably the millionth time that day) why a woman hates being weighed.
I don’t bother taking off my shoes, earrings, rings, coat, sweater or socks to squeeze extra ounces off my body. What's the point?
I can feel I'm gaining weight by the way my clothes fit. If I can’t breathe with my blue jeans on, or the buttons on my preppy buttoned-down blouse doesn't close properly I know I’m in trouble.
Re-enter Jenny Craig.
When I called my friends at Jenny there were no questions asked. No comments about gaining weight or falling off the wagon. Their focus is on wellness and feeling good about yourself. And I quite agree.
So I’m taking control of my health by jumping back into Jenny Craig. It's my wellness gift to myself.
Jenny Craig offers nearly 100 premium food choices to help us lose weight, and they're properly portioned and nutritious by balancing protein, carbohydrates, fiber and healthy fats.
They’re also delicious. They really are. When I wasn’t on the plan I craved their triple chocolate cheesecake. They're amazing!
I love the attention you get at the weekly Jenny one-on-one consultations. All of my questions are answered, and the professional advice I receive from my consultant helps me lose weight by offering tips and tricks to stay on course and also ideas on making time to fit in exercise.
I’m excited to be getting back on track and more than ready to feel and look better.
Here we go!

I can relate. I bet you will do great on Jenny Craig.
This is a message I needed to hear today. It's funny how when the student is ready the teacher appears!
I can relate to stepping off of the routine. I have a routine that worked for summer but now I have to come up with one for the fall and winter and so far it hasn't happened yet because I've been so busy. It's about discipline for me though. Just have to get back on the horse and push myself.
I cannot even begin to count the friends I have who have experienced tremendous success on her program. Cheering you on from Austin.
good on you for leaping back on the wagon and that chocolate cheesecake does look delicious! Keep us updated on your progress (I need all the inspiration I can get!)
I hate how things like stress can derail our fitness goals. It is so hard to get back up on that horse. I hope you have splendid success. I can't wait to see how it works!
Best of luck on your program. It's so much easier to gain the weight than to lose it, isn't it? But we've all been there and we're with you this time too.
Good for you Cath! It's all about how you feel and not about the scale. Move on and upward toward your goal. I'm here for you anytime!
Jenny Craig is a great program and I know you will have success with it now just as you did before. Good luck!
Hi Cathy! Congratulations on taking action when needed. I'm exactly the same, I avoid scales like the plague but also know when it's time to cut back and get serious about health. Looking forward to hearing how things go for you. I've heard really good things about Jenny Craig! ~Kathy
I hate scales, too. I do get on them, though, then beat myself up afterward. I have a very different tack: I take of EVERYTHING and only weigh first thing in the morning, before I've eaten a bit or even had a sip of coffee. Then I fiddle with the dial and think it MUST be broken—whether it's because I think the number is too high or lying because it's lower than expected.
I've never tried Jenny Craig. I should...! Thank you for sharing. And good luck!!
Yeah... i don't do the steppin' on the scale thing either. Until recently...i just bought a scale for the first time. It's been giving me good news lately, though. 🙂 Good luck on Jenny Craig.
I wonder if the Hubby would be willing to try Jenny Craig? Living with a food addict who wants shared meals has always made me discount this option. I would love to give it a go.
Good luck, Cathy - you can do it! Remember that. You CAN.
I thought you were already perfect exactly as you are.
Well, we've ALL been there- emotional eating. I can't wait to hear all about your journey with Jenny Craig. I've never tried it but if you say it's going okay then maybe I will. ps: I think you're perfect just the way you are. XXOO
I am an emotional eater, too. I have gained weight since my Mother passed away in July. I made a mistake listening to my friend who told me that you can't gain weight from grief. Boy was she wrong! Good for you for getting back on track. Good luck with Jenny Craig!
You're going to be svelte and sexy in no time!
You go Cathy! Exercise routines are so easy to get out of habit and hard to get back into but……….
After seven straight years of not going over my 2 pound limit on Weight Watchers, I had a tough year last year and gained 15 pounds....but I turned the corner and have lost it all and looking to lose a few more with a different plan, The Fast Metabolism Diet. But Jenny Craig has done wonderful things for my family in the past and I am an advocate of keeping healthy whatever it takes and however many times it takes to start anew: Hence my recent article in HuffPo:
5 Reasons I'll never stop dieting! You go girl and all the luck in the world to you!

I have always felt these programs help most people. The food choices are key for me. Best of luck !
This sounds like just the sort of thing I should do too, Cathy. I need to find the Indian version of Jenny!
Good luck to you.
Cathy, first let me congratulate you and your family for weathering any storms you have been through this past year. Just becoming closer as a result is special. Not all families can do that. Just think of how lucky you are! I am not such a quick typist, so rather than taking up the rest of my day and yours of course, I'll try to not be so wordy. My kids tell me I am. First, you have not fallen off the wagon! We all should allow ourselves to have diversions. It is called, "NORMAL". Being able to identify with having the same health issue, I don't make excuses for myself, I try to not be so hard on myself. I usually am my biggest critic! It's easy to give advice to others. Now just pick yourself up and ( baby steps ) you'll get yourself back on track. You sound like you are a smart cookie! Just stay healthy!
